We consider graduate students to be professionals in training. The Program provides broad and comprehensive well-rounded professional training in genetics academia, research, and teaching experience. Students are intimately involved in program activities and have a strong voice in shaping the program. The Genetics Graduate Program also provides flexible academic pathways tailored to meet the background and career goals of the individual student. Martin Picard. Event Details You are invited to enjoy lunch with Dr. Over the past 6 years, the Aggie Research leadership programs have helped hundreds of graduate students and postdocs advance their own research while developing leadership skills critical for jobs in academia and industry.
Team leaders select and manage groups of undergraduate researchers recruited with help of the Aggie Research Program. There is no deadline for joining, but November is best time to register a project to start assembling a team for the Spring. Lunch will be provided! Please RSVP via tov tamu. At Emory, this training enables students to mine genomic databases and generate their own datasets to understand the basis of evolution, the dissemination of disease and variations that occur with disease genes, the identification of disease traits, and the predictive nature of complex genomic analyses.
Areas of focus include cancer, cell and developmental biology, epigenetics, and the principles of human disease. State-of-the-art sequencing facilities are available to enable students to investigate gene expression profiles, copy number variation, genetic polymorphisms, transcription-factor occupancy across the genome, and epigenetic modifications.
To provide the basis for advanced research, introductory courses covering both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems are taken in the first year. First-year students obtain practical research training by participating in eight-week rotations in the investigators' laboratories of their choice. These courses serve as a basic science bridge to the more specific content of Human Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Research rotations are designed to introduce students to different areas of research and methodologies, to teach a variety of approaches to scientific problem solving, and to provide the opportunity to explore various laboratories as potential homes for thesis research. For detailed information about the program, please review our Program Handbook.
When it does, it melts quickly. Summer is wonderful; pretty warm in July and August, but very low humidity. And, of course, there are the mountains to play in.
